LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) _ A Baptist minister who toured the country to talk about his conversion from Islam to Christianity is being removed as dean of Liberty University’s theological seminary following allegations he fabricated or embellished facts about his past.

The university founded by the Rev. Jerry Falwell says a board of trustees committee concluded that Ergun Caner (AYR’-gun KAN’-ur) made contradictory statements, but can remain on the seminary’s faculty.

The Rev. James White, who helped expose Caner’s inconsistencies, calls the school’s action inadequate. On his blog, White says Liberty is “protecting its own interests, at the cost of full disclosure, rather than acting like a Christian institution with Christian standards and morals.”
