The Kentucky Enquirer reports that debris from bottle rockets and other fireworks littered the sidewalk and street in front of St. Benedict’s Church in Covington.
The Covington Fire Department’s Alan Terry said there was no other apparent cause for the fire.
He said damage to the church is estimated at $50,000 to $75,000. Damage was limited mostly to the steeple, a choir loft and a first-floor bathroom. The church’s century-old organ appeared undamaged.
The church’s business manager, Clare Voll, said Wednesday’s masses are canceled because of clean up.
