Prayer Ban Upheld
By admin • Aug 3rd, 2011 • Category: Faith ReportUNDATED (Religious Liberties) – The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld a lower court’s ban on praying in Jesus’ name before public meetings. The ACLU and the Americans United for Separation of Church and State sued the Board of Commissioners in Forsyth, North Carolina in 2007, because opening prayers mentioned Jesus. Judge Paul V. Niemeyer, the dissenter in the 2-1 decision, criticized his fellow jurists by saying, “The majority has dared to step in and regulate the language of prayer…the sacred dialogue between humankind and God. I submit that we must maintain a sacred respect of each religion.”
